It’s time to PlayGreen
At a time when the EU is raising its climate ambitions and promising to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2030, sport must also jump on the bandwagon and accelerate its ecological transition. How do we prepare for this future with our community houses, ice rinks, outdoor facilities, sports halls, stadiums, swimming pools and more? These are communal challenges. Therefore we invite you to apply for the PlayGreen Initiative to generate an overview. What’s your approach as an European company to support the climate ambitions and emissions for all those sports facilities?
Apply today as we have only 100 spots for the PlayGreen eMagazine (as a start) and 50 booths for the PlayGreen Summit on June 13, 2024.

The PlayGreen Digital Magazine Focusses on
Energy Consumption & Mobility
Two lines that contribute to the same impact: greenhouse gas emissions. We would be looking for management measures, such as measuring the carbon footprint.
Energy Consumption: The main challenges for sports entities are focused on establishing indicators and objectives in the short, medium and long term that allow performance monitoring in energy management. The initiatives must pursue the optimization in the use of energy resources and the use of renewable energies.
Mobility: Clubs are generators of a very high number of trips, either directly or indirectly, which are associated with energy consumption and polluting emissions. For this reason, clubs must measure their impact and implement all the measures within their reach to achieve sustainable mobility. This issue contemplates, on the one hand, the displacement of club professionals; and on the other hand, the displacement of the spectators. The latter should be dealt with in greater depth in the social dimension, since the influx of spectators to events must be planned to guarantee safe, comfortable, responsible and sustainable transport for all people. The mode of transport and infrastructure availability is also a topic.
Monitoring
Monitoring the environmental impact for sports facilities involves tracking, assessing, and managing the environmental, social, and economic aspects of the facility’s operations to ensure long-term environmental responsibility, community engagement, and financial viability. It is a critical component of managing sports facilities in a way that aligns with broader sustainability goals.
Generation of Waste
The generation of waste is another of the most considerable impacts generated by a facility or club, especially during sporting events, so measures must be taken to, first of all, try to reduce it, and then carry out proper waste management of the same.
Water Consumption
Water consumption constitutes another environmental impact on which improvements can be established which, as in the previous cases, go through its measurement in the first place in order to establish adequate measures to reduce consumption.
Sustainable (re)Constructions & Materials
Sustainable (re)construction is a transversal concept to the environmental issues mentioned above, of special relevance for facilities due to their infrastructures. The concepts of sustainability and eco-efficiency have led to the appearance of new forms of construction aimed at reducing the impacts of this activity. The new construction or renovation represents one of the greatest opportunities to reduce their environmental impact by incorporating sustainable criteria in the works including artificial materials.
The PlayGreen eMagazine is about creating a deeper culture of sustainability within sports facilities, and we believe that you have a role to play in achieving this goal.
