Urban sports (or call it street sports) are transforming public spaces into dynamic hubs for activity, creativity and community. From skateboarding, free running and 3x3 basketball to water-based activities and urban wellness, these movements bring life and inclusivity to our cities. On June 2-3, 2025, European cities will gather to exchange knowledge and experiences as part of the ESWAM 2025 program.

Explore how urban sports can enhance city life, integrate into policies and foster collaboration across departments. Learn from best practices, share challenges and co-create solutions for vibrant, active urban spaces. Join us to shape the future of urban sports and contribute to an active and more connected Europe.

As we can imagine you can’t make it the whole webinar, feel free to contribute and take part on the times that fits your agenda.

As Almere, The Netherlands, hosts the Urban Sports Games from May 31 – June 2, the Urban Sports Cities was initially combined with these games. Due to logistical challenges, we had to decide to organise this event online. This way no knowledge will be lost. We are still thankfull to Almere for their cooperation.

Cities invest in street culture and sports in the hope of generating a host of benefits. But how can the potential these communities of young creative talents can have for a city be harnessed in a way that generates value for both the communities and the city? To find out what value street culture & sports brings to practitioners, intermediary organisations and policymakers, and how best to work together to facilitate these communities with their activities and keep them connected to the city, qualitative and quantitative research will be conducted. The theoretical principles, approach and initial results of the research will be discussed.

This takes the shape of mediation programs, cultural events and subtle integration of urban sports in public spaces, with the idea that it can benefit skaters as much as the city and its inhabitants.
Last year, Bordeaux launched CONNECT, the first international festival on Skaturbanism, with skateable sculptures installed in the heart of the city.
