Welcome to Nürnberg, where history and innovation come together to shape the future of active and healthy cities. Hosted by the Stadt Nürnberg, this ESWAM trip takes you November 16 – 18 to one of Germany’s most influential cities, home to more than 500.000 residents and part of a metropolitan region of over one million people. Together, we will explore how Nürnberg is responding to their challenges on sport and wellbeing.

Marc talks on sports in Nürnberg which has a relation with other sectors as well. Sport has a strong relation with education as many sports facilities are shared with local schools. Besides recreational sports, Nürnberg likes to present themselves also as an events city.

Volkspark Dutzendteich serves as a premier, real-world case study demonstrating how the city of Nürnberg masterfully cluster-integrates professional (elite) sports, academic research and global business (with the Messe). During this program segment, expert explanations will be provided right between the iconic Max-Morlock-Stadion (home of 1. FC Nürnberg) and the massive Arena Nürnberger Versicherung (the large sports and event hall). This athletic hub neighbors the innovative sports science facilities of the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität (FAU) and the campus of the Technical University Nürnberg, showcasing a seamless link between higher education and athletic movement.

As an elite school of sports, the Bertolt-Brecht-Schule shows how Nürnberg integrates education and high-performance sport, supporting young talents across a wide range of disciplines. During our visit, we will explore how the city connects schools, sports facilities and talent development to create opportunities for the next generation. Directly opposite the school, Nürnberg is taking this approach one step further with the new House of Athletes, providing a dedicated home for up to 117 young athletes aged 14 to 18. Combining housing, education, personal development and short distances to school and training facilities, the project demonstrates how a city can build an integrated environment in which young sporting talent can thrive.

In Nürnberg three swimming pools are operated by the clubs (two outdoor / one indoor). The clubs run these facilities with the support of the Stadt Nürnberg. How do these clubs operate these costly facilities? You hear from them first hand on the spot.

Just minutes from Nürnberg’s city centre, Wöhrder See shows how blue and green public space become part of an active and healthy city. At the Norikusbucht, the Bewegungspark offers freely accessible, year-round exercise opportunities for all generations, with equipment for strength, balance, endurance and coordination. It is a practical example of how Nürnberg integrates sport, recreation and wellbeing into everyday public space, encouraging people to be active without the need for a traditional sports facility.

We wander through Nürnberg and experience its history and innovation. We have a limited capacity who can join this exciting trip. So register soon for the ESWAM ticket or regular ticket. All tickets include breakfast (2x), lunch (2x), dinner (2x), private hotel room (2 nights), clinic, workshops, meetings, transport in Nürnberg. Transport to and from Nürnberg is not included. For extra nights, please contact Arno Hermans as the ESWAM finances two nights in Nürnberg (Nov 16 - 18). Leave a remark in the form if you like to book extra night(s), before and/or after. The hotel will be centrally located.

“Nürnberg. Movement meets Heritage.” is part of the European Sports and Wellbeing Alliance for Municipalities (ESWAM) program 2026. Every Alliance city has FREE ticket(s) to join this trip. Adding extra persons from the same organisation cost € 495,- ex VAT per person.

Provide all necessary info through the registration form. After registration we directly contact you to finalise your presence. Be aware of the extra nights, if applicable.

Cancellation Policy – a refund will transfered through the following base:
100% – 60 days before start trip
50% – 40 days before start trip
0% – 30 days before start trip
